Summary (cr: goodreads)

In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes of the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom's protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.

My Review: (also in goodreads)

I haven't seen a single episode of this well-loved series but I am aware of the craze it started. I told myself not to watch a single episode not until I am up to date with the books, and I think that would be a long way off. This books remind me of those medieval fantasy movies and RPG games. The book may be immensely long but I enjoyed every part of it. There were no chapters, only characters stating their point of view. And just when I was enjoying reading about a character's life, it harshly swifts the view to another character and that was one of the reasons why I love the pacing of this book. I love Daenerys' progression from the timid, scared princess to the worthy khaleesi. So far I hate Sansa, and I abhor Joffrey (even without watching the series) and I came to love Daenerys and Arya, especially Arya. As for the direwolves, Ghost would be number 1.

Till the next read...
